Simplified shipping container delivery and handling

Most people have seen videos or photos of large cranes with specialized carriers that are used to load and unload cargo containers from freighters at the port. While in the intermodal, the full containers are loaded with a heavy-duty truck or crane into a specialized chassis to be delivered through the final distribution channels by truck or rail. These intermodal locations contain the right tools to efficiently deal with countless containers on a daily basis, but what about those of us who simply need to move a container from one place to another?
With proper planning before receiving your containers, you can ship and secure them on the slope using a single piece of equipment. When purchasing and shipping containers to your site, be sure to analyze your delivery needs in depth. If you do not have a forklift, loader, or small crane available to lift the container from a flat bed and place it where you want it, you will need to arrange for the container to be delivered and placed on the ground with a trailer type " Landoll. " A Landoll is a flatbed trailer; the platform is hydraulically lifted so your container slides slowly off the bed and carefully onto the floor. Like "Kleenex" versus "fabric," Landoll is a brand for this type of equipment; Some other companies make a similar product with a flat tilt platform. Landoll trailers also have a sturdy winch to control unloading and help load containers or other equipment back onto the trailer bed.

Receiving containers on a tilt deck trailer is easy if you consider a few things:

• You will need approximately 75 feet of open space for the truck, trailer, and container when you receive a 20 foot container and 100 feet of space for a 40 foot container.

• Be sure to provide instructions on how to load the container into the warehouse or its origin on the delivery trailer. Indicate "doors to the cab of the truck" or "doors to the rear of the truck" depending on your site, how you will use the container terminal management system.

• You will need a relatively flat and dry place to place the container that is accessible to the delivery truck and its products.

If you plan to fill your container in one place and move it to another for unloading, then a tilt platform trailer will not be a good choice because its contents will change and possibly be damaged when the container is tipped on the trailer platform. You will need a way to safely lift your container into a level position with a forklift, small crane, or loader. If this type of equipment is not available to you, some companies offer options for this type of container handling. They have tools specially designed to load and unload their own specific containers on your truck without tilting the container. However, these types of containers are designed for much lighter use than an ISO container and could easily be damaged in use. They are not suitable for commercial use.

Shipping containers were built to be transported and handled, but you need the right equipment to do it. Many trucking companies transferring large items or construction equipment will have a tilt deck trailer, so they can move and place their containers safely and properly.
