Pay your debts fast
Say what you want about Tom Nook as a person ... errr raccoon, but he's quite a businessman. He has convinced you and a group of strangers to move to a desolate island and is charging you to do so! Towards the beginning of the game, he will inform you that you owe him 5,000 Nook Miles and 50,000 Bells.
While this sounds like a lot, don't worry, because it won't be too difficult to collect the miles and bells needed to pay off your debts. If you are looking to pay off what you owe quickly, there is a fish in the game that can sell for 15,000 bells, helping you pay off your debt. If interested, here is a guide on how to catch a Golden Trout.
Don't break the rocks
I know it's tempting to eat a fruit and crush a rock, but don't do it, you will regret it. You see, if you break a rock, it will take a full day (legitimate 24 hours) to return and spawn somewhere randomly on your island.
Instead, you'll want to use a shovel or ax to hit the rock, without ingesting any fruit. This will not only prevent the rock from breaking, it will give you multiple items at once, while if you break a rock it will only drop one item. If you have already broken a rock or two, don't worry, just be more careful in the future.
You can get better tools
Let's be honest, the toolset you start the game with sucks, but as with most games, you'll be able to update your tools as you progress through the game so they don't constantly break you. Fortunately, you can purchase the "Pretty Good Tool Recipe" at Nook Stop to get a whole new set of tool recipes.
The game can be purchased for 3,000 miles and will give you enhanced recipes for your ax, shovel, net, fishing rod, and watering can. Of course, these new recipes will require more materials to create, but it will definitely be worth it.
Miles can be turned into bells
If you are like me, you wonder why an island needs two different types of currency, it seems unnecessary. Anyway, if you're trying to buy something and you're running out of Miles, you can buy a Bell Coupon to turn some of your Miles into buy ac bells. The coupon will cost 500 miles and can be redeemed for 3,000 bells.
Despite the popular adage "money doesn't grow on trees," it turns out that in New Horizons it really does. Once you have unlocked a shovel, you can grow a money tree by planting and digging up a shiny dot in the ground.
Once you have unearthed the shiny place, you can plant up to 10,000 bells in the hole and the tree will produce three bags of everything you bury. So if you bury 10,000 bells, your tree will produce 30,000 bells in a few days. Not bad, huh?
We hope some of these Animal Crossing New Horizons beginner tips and tricks have been beneficial to you. Now that you know how to start, go out and turn your island into your own personal paradise!
