The importance of mental health

What is mental health?

Although there is no concise definition, mental health is basically your attitude and approach to life. Psychological, environmental, genetic, or physiological factors have a profound effect on overall mental development.

What is mental illness?

Mental illness impairs your ability to perform routine tasks, foster healthy relationships, or deal with anger or stress. It can be classified based on extreme mood swings, irrational or destructive thought patterns, and behavioral problems.

How important is mental health?

Your mental health has a great impact on all aspects of your life.

o Self-image

Good mental health means appreciating your accomplishments and accepting your shortcomings. A mental illness can cause an inferiority complex, a negative body image, and intense feelings of self-hatred, anger, disgust, and worthlessness, which could mutate into extreme depression, psychosocial disorders, or eating disorders.

or education

Students with mental problems become socially isolated and develop anxiety disorders and concentration problems. Good mental health guarantees a comprehensive educational experience that improves the social and intellectual skills that lead to self-confidence and better grades.

or relationships

Mental health contributes greatly to the functioning of human relationships. Mental illness can hinder even basic interactions with family, friends, and colleagues. Most people with mental illness find it difficult to build relationships, have problems with commitment or intimacy, and often encounter sexual health problems.

or sleep

The inability to manage stress or anxiety can cause insomnia. Even if you can fall asleep, you can wake up a dozen times during the night thinking about what went wrong the day before or how bad tomorrow will be. You can develop severe sleep disorders that leave you exhausted and less productive.

or eat

People with mental disorders are more likely to enjoy comforting meals or emotional binges. Finding comfort in food is something we all do from time to time. But with mental illness, it becomes difficult to control yourself. Eating too much can lead to obesity, putting you at risk for heart disease and diabetes, as well as creating an unhealthy body image.

or physical health

Your mental state directly affects your body. For example, stress can cause hypertension or stomach ulcers. People with mental health have a lower risk of many health complications.

Therefore, make a conscious effort to improve and maintain your mental health.
